Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Receiving Android 5.1.1 Update at AT&T

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Receiving Android 5.1.1 Update at AT&T

Samsung has just confirmed that two of its last year flagship smartphones will finally receive the long-awaited Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

According to the South Korean company, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge will be getting the Lollipop upgrade mentioned earlier at AT&T, beginning October 10.

These smartphones are already at Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, but the latest version contains many bug fixes, improvements and security patches that Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge really need.

Unfortunately, AT&T isn't known for its speedy updates, which is probably one of the reasons Android 5.1.1 Lollipop arrived so late in the year.

It's also worth mentioning that neither AT&T nor Samsung published an official changelog for this particular update.
Important security improvements and optimizations

However, we can safely assume that the update contains lots of tweaks and optimization, as well as security improvements that were announced for other smartphones that received a similar upgrade in the past.

Samsung confirmed that the update is rolling out OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge devices at AT&T.

Even though this isn't really an important update when it comes to new features, at least it patches some of the security wholes many Android users have been affected by in the last couple of months.

In other news, both Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge are expected to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade next year, though an exact release date has yet to be confirmed.

Unfortunately, while Samsung might offer the update to these devices, it remains to be seen whether or not AT&T will allow its customers to receive this important upgrade. We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned for more on this one.
