Gionee GN5001 with 5-Inch HD Display, Quad-Core CPU Leaks Ahead of Official Unveil

Chinese company Gionee is about to launch two new affordable Android smartphones in the coming weeks. They have been recently spotted in China, though Gionee has yet to confirm any of them.

We will be talking about the GN5001, which is likely to be the cheaper of the two. The smartphone has been recently certified TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission.

Along with the listing at TENAA, we also get confirmation on some of the phone's specs, which has yet to be officially unveiled.

According to the certification, Gionee GN5001 will sport a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

There's no mention of Corning Gorilla Glass coating, but it's unlikely for this affordable handset to come with such a feature.

On the inside, the smartphone will be equipped with 1.3GHz quad-core processor, possibly provided by MediaTek, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
It will be powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop OS

Although it comes with a relatively high amount of storage for an entry-level smartphone, the GN5001 includes microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 128GB) as well.

On the back, the handset has been confirmed to pack a 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, while in the front there's a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

When it comes to connectivity, the GN5001 offers TD-LTE FDD-LTE, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS with AGPS support and microUSB 2.0.

This is another indication that the smartphone will definitely make its debut in China, but we don't rule out a possible launch in other countries soon afterwards.

There's no word on availability and pricing options yet, but since the smartphone has already been certified at TENAA we expect it to be announced very soon. Stay tuned for more on this one.
